The girl who spoke to birds

Inspired by the Vogellisi legend, a shy child discovers she can understand the alpine choughs and marmots on the Tschentenalp. The animals guide her across mountain meadows to find a lost healing herb before the first snow buries it forever -- teaching her that the quietest voices in nature often carry the most important messages.

The five gates of the Chuenisbärgli

On the morning of the World Cup, a child sneaks onto the empty Chuenisbaergli race course and discovers that each gate is a portal to a different era of Adelboden's history: 1409 when the valley was first mentioned, 1873 when the first tourist arrived at Christian Hari's farmhouse, 1937 when the first cable car rose to Engstligenalp, and 1967 when the World Cup roar first echoed through the valley.

The waterfall that froze the giant

A legend whispered among Adelboden's farmers: a giant once climbed up from the valley to steal the vast Engstligenalp plateau for himself, blocking the water with his enormous hands. But the falls would not be silenced -- they froze around him, trapping him in ice against the 600-meter cliff face. Every spring, as the ice columns thaw, the outline of the giant briefly reappears before the rushing water erases him again.

500 bells on the mountain

The story of the Alpaufzug told from a young Simmental calf's perspective: the terrifying climb up the steep, narrow rocky path from the valley, the dizzying height, the encouraging calls of the herders -- and then the moment of arrival on the vast, luminous plateau of Engstligenalp, where 500 cattle bells ring together for the first time in a symphony that echoes off the surrounding peaks.

The clockmaker's gorge

In the Cholerenschlucht, a child finds a centuries-old water wheel still turning deep within the narrow limestone walls, driven by the relentless Tschentebach. Following its hidden mechanism deeper into the rock, they discover a forgotten workshop where a mysterious craftsman once carved the village's first clock -- and left behind a riddle that only the Jungbrunnen at the gorge's entrance can solve.

The noble ground

A tale of the twelve stubborn men who built Adelboden's church in 1433 against the wishes of the bishop and the monastery, told from the perspective of the youngest builder's child who carried stones up the hill. When the bishop sends word to stop construction, the villagers must decide whether their faith in their own community is stronger than the authority of the distant church.

The airmen in the chalets

Set in winter 1943: an Adelboden farm girl befriends a young American airman interned at Camp Moloney, who is far from home and shivering in an unheated chalet. She smuggles him warm bread and teaches him the Swiss-German word 'Jungbrunnen,' while he teaches her to fold paper aeroplanes that soar over the mountains -- a fragile friendship across languages and a war neither of them chose.

The first winter guests

Set in 1903: an Adelboden farm girl watches in amazement as Sir Henry Lunn's English guests arrive with strange wooden planks strapped to their feet and peculiar woolly clothes. When one of the guests tumbles into a snowdrift, the girl shows him how to walk in deep snow the mountain way -- and becomes the first local child to try the curious new sport called skiing.
