The angels on the Hahnen

A child accompanies Count Konrad von Sellenbueren into the wild alpine valley in 1120, where snow-capped peaks tower on all sides. As they search for the perfect place to build a monastery, angelic voices ring out from the summit of the Hahnen, and the child sees a choir of shimmering figures in the sky -- giving the valley its name forever.

The revolving gondola

A child rides the Rotair to the summit of Titlis, and as the cabin slowly rotates 360 degrees, each window reveals a different century of Engelberg's history -- monks building the monastery in 1120, the great fire of 1729, the first skiers of 1904, and the shimmering angels that gave the valley its name.

The secret of the scriptorium

A medieval manuscript from Abbot Frowin's time is missing its last page. A child follows clues left by the anonymous Engelberg Master through the monastery library, the cloister garden, and the Baroque church, searching for what the master illustrated in brown and red ink eight centuries ago -- and why he hid it.

The Klosterglocke that rang by itself

The monastery's famous cheese shares its name with a bell -- the Klosterglocke. One night, the dairy bell rings on its own, and a child discovers that the monks' 900-year-old recipe is calling for a special ingredient that can only be found on the high alpine pastures above Engelberg, where the freshest mountain milk holds a secret.

Crossing the Surenen Pass

A child must carry an urgent message from Engelberg over the ancient Surenen Pass to Canton Uri. Along the way, they encounter a marmot family standing guard, a glacier stream to ford, and the ghost of Konrad von Sellenbueren at the summit -- who reminds them that the mountains reward those brave enough to cross them.

The bridge above the clouds

A nervous child steps onto the Cliff Walk at 3,000 meters and discovers that the one-meter-wide bridge connects two worlds: the snowy summit where the Ice Flyer soars over crevasses twenty meters deep, and an underground glacier cave five thousand years old. Halfway across, the clouds part to reveal all of Engelberg far below.

Little Versailles in the mountains

A child in 1905 explores the grand hotels of Engelberg's Belle Epoque: the Kursaal's music room with its crystal chandeliers, the electric railway that arrived before Zurich had power, and the mysterious cure doctor who prescribes nothing but mountain air. In the lobby of 'Little Versailles,' they meet guests from across Europe who have come to be healed by the alpine valley.

The waterfall's song

The Taetschbach waterfall stops flowing in midsummer, and the valley begins to dry. A child hikes up to the Griessen glacier on the Wissigstock at 2,887 meters and discovers why the meltwater has stopped -- the glacier is retreating. The child must convince the ancient ice to release its water one last time before the Engelberger Aa runs dry.
