A child discovers a five-franc coin that, when spun inside a ceramic Talerschwingen bowl, opens a shimmering portal to 17 June 1405 -- the Battle of Stoss. The Appenzellers, fighting under their banner of the angry bear, are outnumbered and need one more voice to complete the victory yodel that will echo across the mountains and rally the defenders at the Letzinen earthworks.
